Redwood Planters & More
Redwood and Cedar
Planters
A timeless and care-free
trend in outdoor decorating is using redwood and cedar planters to display your
favorite tropical plants or small potted trees.
Redwood lumber is highly valued for its beauty, light weight, and
resistance to decay. Its lack of resin makes it resistant to fire. Because of its impressive resistance to
decay, redwood was extensively used for railroad ties and trestles throughout California. Many of the old ties have
been recycled for use in gardens as borders, steps, table tops and plant holders.
Decorating with planters allows much more freedom to
change the size, color and theme of outdoor designs. You can also use a decorative trellis (or two) inside
the planter box and select a beautiful growing vine like a Bouganvilla for a fantastic wall of color. By
placing casters on the legs, the planters can easily be moved around but you'll need to consider the growing
conditions of the plants you choose. Ornamental grasses look stunning in a redwood planter
especially when two or more are placed along the fence. You'll be amazed at the
results!
