The color and type of plant hardware has a big impact on the overall look of your fence. If you want a modern look, use silver or copper brackets and hardware. Black wrought iron brackets create an old world feel and and easily available throughout the year.
Use white or green hardware for an English Garden theme. If possible, try to keep all the hanging plant brackets the same. It makes everything uniform and the focus will be on the decorations, murals or artwork.
Wrought iron wall shelves and plant holders usually have similar designs so they mix-n-match pretty well. Try different colors; instant, easy and they can always be re-painted black.



Industrial wall shelves make excellent outdoor plant shelves. Spray paint them black or different colors to match the outdoor decor. Hang a few bottles that hold tea lights, glass hummingbird feeders or even glass Christmas ornaments from the top shelf and then put 6" hanging baskets on the lower shelf.

A simple but dramatic look with a red faux-painted wall with lanterns ramdomly placed. The black scrolled wrought iron hardware holding the lanterns that gives it a unique and romantic old world charm. This decorating scheme could easily be incorporated on a small enclosed patio fence. Find old metal outdoor light fixtures at flea markets or garage sales. Give them a little sanding, a coat of black paint, and place them on the fence for a truly unusual look and a bold statement. Put tea lights inside for a soft night glow. Place one large lantern in the center of a fence square with two Bougainvillas hanging baskets on each side.
