DYF Hanging Gardens Zone 9 - the Gulf Coast Region.
Out of space? Think up. . . or maybe down. . . or how about both! Hanging basket gardens can really stretch your space and spice-up your fence. Hanging baskets add beauty, color and interest to a porch, patio or fence.

Make the most of a small space by adding several small hanging baskets with trailing foliage. The larger the fence, the more (and bigger) baskets you can hang.
Change plantings every season for year-round color and life. Put three or four silk flowers in a pot or several in a ceramic vase... it looks great and you'll always have a colorful backyard.
Sally the Staghorn Fern
This is the last photograph that will be on DecorateYourFence. If you click on the photo, you'll see the remaining photos that we're leaving here. . . just for fun! She's even bigger now (12-30-07).
HOYAS. Here are a few Hoyas. The blooms on Hoyas look almost artificial, kind of like plastic. They are INCREDIBLE! They like filtered light and hate being saturated with water; they'll turn yellow, wither and die. Use a 20-20-20 fertilizer (like Peter's) for healthy plants, they love it.
See, Big Island Growers and also Hoya Plants for additional information and photographs.

 Trails are almost 2-feet long.

If you need information on flowers, plants and gardening, check out Dave's Garden. You'll find plenty of information and photographs to help diagnosis many plant diseases and how to take proper care of them. The Hoya below (a/k/a Indian Rope Plant; Krinkle Kurl) had Mealybugs and the cure was found at Dave's Garden. The photo on the right shows it recovered quite well.
Swabbed with alcohol, then washed with organic insecticidal soap, repotted with fresh soil and moved outdoors for fresh air circulation. Indirect or bright filtered light is best,
Hoya Lacunosa, ready to bloom and in its 8-inch Exotic Angel basket.
Dischidia Ruscifolia, Million Hearts Rhipsalis "Micrantha" Plant, a Hoya cousin.
If you're partial to hanging baskets, try the Exotic Angel Plants. They generally don't come in anything larger than an 8" basket, but you'll find many attractive and unusual types of plants from this company; they're healthy and worth the price if you want to keep your plants around for a long time.
